I think the clock may be unrelated Roger...
Possibly there is a reason why the shunt was not in place and installing the shunt may well reveal new problem(s). You need to install the shunt and then appraise the situation - see what's working and what's not - and go forward from there...

It's not! It was working when I paper-clip shunted between F8 and F23. Only noticed it had stopped working some time after. I may be wrong. It's lighting up but no digits whereas digits were fine before.
It just became a pain having to get up and drive at midnight every night so my clock was correct reading!!!
I will be getting a shunt from Citroen tomorrow. In fact, had a bit of a shunt today. Some dozy woman in a big rental Luton van hit the back of the Xantia at our storage compound.

Roger, are you saying that with the shunt in place the clock displays digits when the ignition is on and then goes blank when the ignition is switched off?

No.
The clock would not save the time with ignition key out. Every time I switched car on, it reverted to 00:00. Switch car off, time was not retained and so it reverted back to 00:00 at start of next journey - VERY useful as a stopwatch!
With shunt in place, it held the memory in the clock (for the 2 minutes) that I had the paperclip inserted.
I then removed paperclip as I thought it's not really safe to leave that in.
Basically, at some point between removing the paperclip and the next time I looked at the clock, the digits no longer display at all but it does light when I switch the dip beam on (still no digits anymore though!)

I was on the service Citroen Technical data earlier. Paid for an hour's access. Well worth it. I noticed, but didn't get to download the document as I was looking at other areas, that there was a document for 1996 Wiring Modifications! It seems as though the Series 1 needed some revision in 1996. I wonder if this is mentioned in your manuals?

Have purchased a shunt today which has resolved two issues. Digital clock is now working again as are interior courtesy lights.
