That's fitted to the back of the pump to my knowledge, a rubber cushion that the back end of the arm hits.

The one on the front compresses when you put your foot down.

Our 1.9TD used to average 42-43 mpg (local running around with the bulk of miles on motorway). Economising by cruising at 2,600 - 2,700rpm on motorway (instead of 3,000 rpm) fuel consumption has improved to about 45 mpg. Try either a can of diesel fuel system cleaner, or a tank-full of ordinary Shell diesel. I run ours exclusively on Shell as the choice locally is that or Pace (which is rarely more than ½p/L cheaper). If I fill up elsewhere, I look for cheap Shell.

Talking of Shell, most places I've seen it's either the cheapest or not often more than 1/2p more than other garages, and Cassy likes it nearly as much as veg.

In my area Shell is usually a bit more expensive. With their loyalty scheme you can get 0.5 p/l in points, which brings it down a bit. I've found only the high grade Shell makes any difference to performance, but at 8p/l more it's not worth it.

42 mpg mostly on mine. They have become long in the tooth lest you are running veg. Extra price of diesel means the2.0 petrol is nearly on par with it .......and more oomph!

From my recent experience with dirty inlet manifolds I'd get yourself some Wynn's EGR3 spray and give your manifold a treat.

Thanks lads

I checked the front brakes at the weekend and the pads on the o/s front were binding badly and I had to virtually chisel the pads out of the carrier!. All sanded/filed down and coppa greased and the difference is amazing - better more graduated braking and it feels faster. Will do the rear brakes as soon as I can but they don't seem to be binding.

Will run some diesel treatment and inlet manifold spray - by the way - what happens if you spray carb cleaner in - does that do the same job?

Cheers

Alan
