I'm not sure if the HDi 90 uses the same downpipe as a TD Xantia (the 110 certainly doesn't) if it does then simply replace the cat with a TD downpipe, failing that I don't think you can buy a non cat downpipe off the shelf for HDi's so you'll have to find a company making custom exhausts and get them to fabricate a pipe for you, eBay has a number of companies offering such a service for the "Boy Racers" under the title of "De-cat pipe" or similar so maybe search one out local to you and give them a call.

I de-catted my 2000 Xantia HDi 90. The 1.9TD front pipe is a direct replacement for this.
No problems with subsequent MOTs either, in case you're wondering.
Didn't notice any noticeable difference in performance though.

Just seen you asked where from.
I got mine from http://www.buypartsby.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
I've used them quite a lot and never had any problems.
They have useful exploded exhaust diagrams on their site so you can order any bits you want.
They are based in Nottingham area but I've always used the mail order.

Thanks to you both for your replies.
deuchebleu, This is very useful information thanks very much, is it possible to remove the pipe off the Turbo from below only, to get at the top from the engine bay seems a little difficult. ie turbo pipes to remove and possibly top engine mount to be able to rotate the engine forwards.

If it's like the 1.9TD, it's held on by two spring loaded bolts, one either side of the exhaust so access is best from below.

Thanks Xac, my Grandson had a try last night ( I am unable to crawl underneath cars these days and it is his car anyway ) he says that the bolts are turning but not undoing ie nuts not captive. He also says that the nuts are on the bottom and he can feel the bolt head and it is turning as he tries to turn the nut, he seems to think there is no acess from below to put a spanner on the bolt head.

Firstly, never go under the car without it being securely supported such as with axle stands as they can and have dropped killing the person underneath. Of course if you don't like your grandson it could be handy... ;)

Secondly, and hopefully your grandson did this if you haven't got a ramp/pit, get the car on high, put axle stands under the front jacking points, for most things they can often fit under on the lowest setting without the need to jack the car at all, but for getting right under the back you may need to put them on the first hole setting so use a jack on the subframe, I try and get the jack's cup over the large nut that can be seen just behind the front wheels.
Then set the car on low, it will pivot on the axle stands giving plenty of room to get under.

I used a flexible head ratchet with a socket (I can't remember if it's 10mm or 11mm) to hold the heads as they're slightly recessed so you can't get a spanner on them. A crank spanner might be able to do the job, you just need to get it on and hold it in place while you unscrew the nuts.
Depending on how rusty they are, it might be an idea to order new nuts.

As Xac says, it's two spring loaded bolts. I did mine completely from underneath with the car front on ramps.
The heads are recessed but you do need to get something on them to stop them from turning.
It's not that easy but not impossible either.
I ordered a new gasket and set of bolts with the exhaust thinking I might have to cut the nuts off but there isn't really the space to get anything in to do this easily. Just need to persevere with it, it will come off eventually.
You could maybe get a dremel or flexible shaft up there to cut the nuts if all else fails.

Don't know about a 90, but on a 110 only cut the nut on the OS as a last resort - there is not enough room to remove the remains of the bolt, or insert a new one. You have to cut the head off the old one which is nearly impossible, then fit a piece of threaded bar with nuts either end to hold the exhaust back on. Which isn't much easier. I think I reached round from the front of the subframe to get the spanner on the back, and then used a lot of wobble bar extensions to undo the nut. I hate working on exhausts, and this didn't improve my thoughts on that any!

Hi John, just ordered from buyparts £60.00 including £10.00 postage, they rang me back and said as it is over 6ft long there would be a £50.00 postage surcharge. The order is now cancelled so the search continues.

That's a bit steep. I've just bought a full Fiesta exhaust off them and they only charged me £7.50 carriage.
Admittedly no part of it is longer than 6ft, but it's pretty close.
I've never payed more than a tenner.
Something to watch out for in future.
You should be able to source the part from a local motor factors.

John, their carrier has just increased their charges from £7.50 plus vat for everthing to £7.50 for most things except for items over 6 foot, these items carry a £50 surcharge, they are trying to source a new carrier but are still contracted to the existing one. As you say the front pipe is the same as the TD so I have ordered one from GSF for close to the price Autospares wanted minus the postage as I live quite close to the Manchester branch, I will pick it up tomorrow. The old exhaust is off now, my Grandson cut a 10mm spanner in half and welded it to a 50cm length of 25mm by 4mm bar this made a 50cm, 10mm spanner, very easy then to fit the spanner to the bolt head. Found the dreaded corrosion on the rear caliphers got one of those off and cleaned off the corrosion will get the pads tomorrow hope the other side comes apart OK.
