1997 Xantia td sx timing belt and others

Post by redzzed »

Hi Guys , i have done a quick search on previous posts and gave up after 3 pages .

My xantia diesil had a new timing belt at 92k and has now done 138K , of which i have done 10K .

Do i absolutely have to have new belts at 142K or can i stetch it a bit to a 55K interval ?
I don't razz the car over 3100 revs .

Next question , i have been quoted £300 by a reliable and honest indy , for all belts replaced , is that a fair price
and if not where can i get them done (bristol or oxford or slough..i get around ) reliably and more cheaply .?

thx for your help .

I hope he is supplying a full timing belt kit and waterpump and new coolant for the quoted price.

If he is then it's not bad, otherwise a tad on the pricey side...

I'd say, for peace of mind, get the belt done soonest. It's not worth taking a chance as these engines suffer damage with a broken cambelt. It destroys the cam and in 9 cases out of ten also destroys the head... A belt kit and fit at £300 then suddenly looks like money well spent.

Thx for the replies , i will stretch it a bit to maybe 52/53k 'cos i am living off savings , like quite a few people are .
I think the indy said 'all 3 belts' but would nt know until he saw em all , as to whether they needed replacing or not .

it's a lot of wonga , the car is hardly worth £600 .

thx agin

If he said three belts then I'd find another Indy... He clearly does not know the engine

The only PSA engine with three belts, as far as I know, is the XM 2.5 Diesel...

The 1.9 TD has two; a cam belt and an auxiliary belt.

My mistake/misunderstanding , thx for pointing it out
