Post by boostcrazy »

ok the car is a n plate xantia vsx td
its had a kenwood head unit fitted, so the volume controls ect doent work, the problem is that niether does the trip computer< i take it that the button on the end of the wiper stalk is the trip button>
so i removed the head unit and found an empty socket, wondered if that was maybe why its not workin ?? anny advice would be great :)

hi Boost.. you have a trip computer in a TD? ( I can't see the pics at work)

I have only owned one mark 1 TD, non vsx, but I am sure it never had a TC?

would love to have one in mine, but I imagine it's impossible with the injection being mechanical..
In fact even my M2 V6 didnt have one, IIRC.. it had the button though..

Looks more like an oil temperature display to me, is that a degrees symbol in the top right corner or an A/B?

The display is the one for outside temperature... The dashes acrooss it mea the sensor is duff/broken/not connected...

I can't now remember which door mirror the sensor is in but I know it's opposite sides depening on whether it's a MK1 or a MK2. However the presence of the sensor can be felt by feeling under the mirror hinge. The sensor will be felt as a round bump.

Often a mirror is replaced and replaced with a non-sensing one... Only the VSX, MK1 Exclusives and Activa models had this display and sensor so any mirror got from say, a scrapper, is likely not to have it...

Its as Jim states, trip computers were never fitted to Xantia's, well at least in the UK.

Yes on a VSX the sensor is under the O/S mirror, mind you I can't see any reason why you couldn't fit a sensor to the mirror as I think the panel that'll be there ATM can be flicked out and replaced with a sensor which are available separately, after all the rest of the wiring is there.
