Mk1 Xantia central locking and back brakes question

Post by aerodynamica »

Hi all,

Although the locking works all round on the xantia by the remote or keys, occasionally it activates or deactivates with more of an electric 'groan' instead of the sharp 'Clack' it usually does.

I wonder if it's operating very slowly or something. Just concerned that it's going to chuck it (in the locked position) in the heighteth of winter :-D

Next. I think some of the rear brake weirdness I've been getting is caused by a duff brake pad that's either worn right down or the compound has broken off the metal backing. I hape a pair of NOS pads for my CX and recall that most Citroens from the GS through, CX, BX and XM all used the same ones. Does this hold for the Xantia? I have a vague recollection of a discussion once that said they looked the same but there was one small difference somewhere that rendered it troublesome to fit.

Does anyone know?

For the locking, try to work out which lock is causing the issue, it could be the tailgate that's doing it.

Hi Xac, it's all 5 locks! they are definitely all making the same noise. I'd say though that the rear hatch lock is the loudest. Mostly though, they all snap open or closed including the rear hatch. I wondered if it would be a problem that was common to all 5 locks such as the power supply or an earth.

As suggested, it will likely be one that's faulty but triggers the rest into randomly misbehaving whether singly or in concert; can happen with the ZX as well.

Haha! busted - OK I just got a bit lazy.. Still, it's getting worse so I'll be at it tonight.

Any advances on the question of whether the GS-CX-BX shaped rear brake pads will fit?

If you have the CX part numbers available then they could be cross referenced.
