Citroen Xantia 2.0L HDI SX Stereo

Post by stevestix8 »

Hi all,

Have got another question. This time is about the CD multichanger head unit. It is the original system.

Was recently given some nice speakers, which I have mounted in the parcel shelf with a stiff board bolted behind to give more strength. Am pleased with the parcel shelf, the speakers are solid and well installed. I have wired in speakers before on my 1.9 TD Xantia (paid £300 and lasted for 4 yrs, never let me down) amongst others. So will chase the wiring myself to the centre console and up to the head unit.

Can anyone give me some advice about the speaker wiring to the rear of the head unit?

I believe it is a 6 speaker set up and so it should be obvious when I get to it, which is left / right and front / back, i'm hoping!

It's not a true six speaker system Steve. The front dash-mounted tweeters (that count as speakers 5 and 6) run from the front door speakers via small electrolytic capacitors to act as a crude cross-over.

I can provide the head unit plug wiring if that will help. However, it may not apply if you have one of the very late head units covered by the hinged flap.

Hinged flapped front stereos and flush mounted stereos all use the same speaker outputs as eacb other... The only thing thats different is the plug for the steering controls...

So if your unlucky to have a hinged tape player unit or single slot cd unit you can still add the earlyer multi changer headunit and cd changer but the steering controls wont work..

Sory bit off topic....

Actually jim the stereo speaker wireing has been the same right through xantia production as a series one radio will work in an s2 perfectly well...

Hi,

Thanx for responses.

I did get the original stereo owner manual when I got the car. According to this book the system is called '4035 RDS Audio system with cd changer'. This does not give me a wiring diagram.

In the owners manual there is a diagram of the 3 electric blocks to the rear of the system, they call it radio pre-equipment. On this diagram it says block 'B' has 8 terminals which deal with pos and neg for left/right and front/back speakers.

Short of taking it apart (which I will do when I wire in new speakers) I cannot confirm what is actually there in the car.

I will remove the fuse for the stereo system before making speaker connections and ensure system is protected as to minimize any probs.

If I am right I should have to wire:

B1 + RH rear speaker
B2 - RH rear speaker
B7 + LH rear speaker
B8 - LH rear speaker

Can anyone confirm?
