Xantia HP pump leak, seal replacement

Post by romie »

Hey, so here is the HP pump on the Xantia (picture shown at bottom of post).

There is a leak from between the bottom nut and the pump.

I've got the O-ring.

I know to watch out for a spring and ball bearing when removing the bottom nut.

I was just wondering about the LHM fluid.

I presume I lower the car down to it's lowest setting to depressurise the LHM as much as possible.

Do I need to empty some of the LHM out before removing the pipe, if so where from?

Or can I just remove that bottom nut, (placing a bowl under the car and a rag over the nut), and just swap the O-rings over?

Cheers, Romie

That one you have circled is one of the high pressure outputs. Its good practice to lower the suspension and turn the 12mm pressure regulator screw on the accumulator sphere block by half a turn just in case.
Once you've loosened the nut on the pipe you'll need to pull the pipe out a bit as it can get lodged in there proper after a while!

I think it is the high pressure line which goes to the regulator.

Protect your alternator with a plastic bag and cover also A/C compressor below even though it is a tight package

It looks as though your auxillary belt has jumped across a tooth and shed a tooth of belt, get that changed ASAP!

Worth checking if your tensioners are wonky too as this can cause the belt to move a tooth, I had this issue on my 1.9 306, a broken AUX belt on a Xantia is NOT a good thing, you will lose brakes after a couple of pedal presses!

More likely the pump has been fitted misaligned; that was my observation of what happens if it's too far on the nearside.

cheers for thoughts.

That belt has been like that since I got the car a year or so ago.

Yup, I def need to change aux and timing belt sooner rather than later :/ sigh.

Great, I'll do the above, ta :D

i find if you clamp the main suction feed rubber pipe going to the pump you loose less citro blood (LHM),

also try not to disturb the spring and plundger under that pipe union,
