Xantia – Idle problem

Post by lancia58 »

I have a Citroen Xantia 2.0 16V SX make year 2000. Recently the when I stop or depress the accelerating pedal it takes time till the revs falls back to 800. When I stop ( and engine is running ) the revs are at 1100 – 1200 and then slowly it may fall to 900 but it take time. Any suggestions

Thanks
Zohar

That sounds like a vacuum leak; there is more air getting in so the motor asks for more fuel - revs go up in response. At idle the computer recognises there is no accelerator being applied, so it gradually cuts back the step count for your idle controller.

could also be the idle stteper motor startting to fail,

remove it from the throtle body, blast it out with carb cleaner, then give it a blast with duck oil or a very light oil, but DO NOT USE the W stuff (WD40) crap,

i used to find useing carb cleaner would sort them long enough to proove it was at fault, but then they would almost certainly die,

till i found i could recover one that had died in thois way by giveing it a shot of duck oil,

obviously the carb cleaner dry's it out inside which causes it to stick/bind,
