C5 2.0 HDi battery replacement

Post by GB »

Is this a good deal?

Exide 77Ah EA770 with 4yr warranty, £83 delivered from Click Car Parts selling though Ebay.

Any other shop/battery recommendations?

Need to get a replacement battery very soon, the original 2005 vintage Varta 720 is on its way out - problems with starting first thing in the morning when cold.

My answer would be save your money, you can buy one for a lot less here and I can recommend them, I have bought twice from them for Xantia and C5 HDIs

Ps. Their number for the C5 HDI is 960.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Generally you can tell the quality of a battery by its weight, one or two firms state the weight, the more lbs for your £ the better.

I recently bought a Renault branded one from an eBay dealer at a very good price.

If you are faced with several choices at the same price look for the one with the highest CCA figure (cold cranking amperes). This is the important part for starting on cold winter mornings especially with a high compression diesel engine.

I went to my local factor last year and got a Yuasa one for under £80. Not that it helped, the real problem was the rubbish Mitsubishi starter.

The battery search is over - the original battery died this morning. Over the past three days the car would start, however the dash voltage meter would then drop to below the quarter mark, and then would take about a minute to stabilise in the middle. So I knew the end was imminent.

Had to call ADAC (I have their ADAC-Plus European recovery membership, only €79 a year), the AA van arrived 45 minutes later to start the engine. Then picked up a £72 Exide battery (720 CCA, 4 year warranty) earlier today from Euro Car Parts - they also sell them online for £82 including "free" delivery.

Thanks for all suggestions, they were very helpful. :)
