Turbo overboost caused by loss of vacuum control usually due to leaks in the vac pipes and or failure of the swirl valves well documented on this site. a search on swirl valves should throw up several hits but read this thread first.

I had the same trouble with my 2.2hdi , and as above it was due to a pipe leak/split , it didn't go into limp home mode or lose power though

Have you reset the ECU's with a Lexia?

No I have not reset the ECUs with a Lexia.
Does it have to be a Lexia?
Also does this model have a seperate Eolys ECU?

Thanks.

Yes the ECU's do need resetting with a Lexia or an alternative diagnostic tool, I notice that Sealey now sell a tool for this specific purpose.

There are countless ECU's on C5's

A mechanic has a generic tool to read faults from most cars.

Will this be able to do the reset?

Thanks.

No generic EOBD code readers won't do this as its a task specific to the car, whereabouts are you, there may be a Lexia owner on the forum near you who can do this for you, consult the Lexia location thread.

Be advised that ESP/ASR AntiPollution message has nothing to do with EOLYS or FAPS except where the FAP is pretty well completely choked in which case you should also get a "Filter Blocked" message.

Well the FAP was completely blocked so it was cleaned up.

Then the Eolys was topped up.

But the car still wont rev above 4000 and the ESPR and Anti-pollution faults remain.

I have told by two people that the ECUs have to be reset now.

It is possible that the Eolys Injection ECU will need to be reset, but as far as I can determine from all the related Citroen docs I have, it will / should not give you an ESP/ASR Pollution Fault and certainly will not give you LIMP mode, though 4000 rpm sounds a little high for Limp Mode, which is normally limited to 2200 rpm, unless of course the cleaning of the FAP was not done well and it is still choked up with unburnt carbon.
There are two scenarios for a choked FAP :- 1 Where the Eolys injection has been working properly and the filter is choked with what is essentially carbon ash and 2: Where the Eolys has not been working correctly and the filter is choked with unburnt carbon.
While people have reported success with washing out FAP's with a pressure washer I can believe that this may work well for the first case but I am somewhat skeptical that this technique will work on a filter choked up with baked on carbon. In that case "burning " it out with oxy propane or similar may be the best way of doing it.

A Lexia will show both the related error messages and allow the pressure differential across the FAP to be read as well as allowing the EOlys Injection ECU to be reset.

Will it rev past 4000 rpm in neutral?

My 2.2 will go to 5000 rpm when out of gear, but, it'll not go above around 4200 in 1st or 2nd.

In 5th gear 4000 rpm will be about 125 mph.
Cheers, Kev
