1995 ZX Elation 1.9 D (non-turbo) 131838 miles Lucas/CAV pump
One thing I noticed a couple of years ago when I had to replace the throttle shaft seals, was that inside the pump there is a rod which runs along the top of the pump from the throttle shaft through a flat plate and which has a very thin spring secured between the end of the rod and the plate.
This spring was broken, but as the car seemed to be running fine at the time – and I would imagine obtaining a replacement would be like finding rocking horse manure, I decided to leave well alone.
The question is: does anyone know the purpose of that spring?
I might try and get an old pump from a scrappy, or fleabay though and do a bit of a swap...
