There's slow and slow :D I drive slowly but my cars are not slow, I can go fast if I want to - which is unlikely :D - I think an auto BX would be though especially if its not turbo. I remember driving a non turbo ZX auto once, you needed a calender to check the 0-60.

Well, you'll be safe from speed cameras in it but do mind the speeding tortoises...

I am now the proud owner of a 1990 Citroen BX diesel automatic.
I am rather impressed. It has three electric windows, electric sunroof, power steering, autobox. Now. It is neglected.. So what do I need to do to ensure reliability? The lower engine mount is shot. Are these available non genuine and cheap?

Congratulations. Engine mount available at not to much cost, I think all the XUDs use the same one, not so easy to fit though, you need to take the bracket off and the drive shaft goes through it, then you need a good press.

Second hand ones here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... Categories

I had a 1.9D estate a couple of years back. I liked it. Wasn't quick off the mark, but shifted well when up to speed.

My father had one of the very first BX's in the UK, the one with revolving drum instruments, back around '82. ! Was a 1.6 petrol from memory, I remember it being a very good car. Build quality was a little flimsy but reliability was excellent. We put over 100k miles on that in 2.5 years before it was sold.
We then had 2 other BX's as company cars, a 1.9 petrol, high spec version and a 1.6 petrol pov spec ! That was around 1987-88. Good cars, never had any problems, economic to run.
Then I had a banger BX for a while, the turbo diesel. Bought with flat spheres, loose steering column, shot OS front wheel bearing and numerous other faults. Got it for £100 though ! Fixed all the problems and then put 45K miles on it in 15 months with no other issues. The TD was the best of all the BX's I've driven.

We had more Citroens as company cars than any other make in our companies 23 year history, I have to admit though that it was due to Citroen dealers doing better deals than others !
However, we did an analysis of reliabilty and running costs of all the company cars we'd ever had and Citroen was by far the best. We only ever had one actual breakdown in a Citroen, in all those miles and years !
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(
My past Citroens :-
'00 Xantia SX HDI, now dead due to accident :(
'99 Xantia HDI 110 Exclusive, RIP :(
'97 Xantia TD SX
'96 Xantia TD LX
'96 ZX TD
'89 BX TD
'88 AX GT
'79 CX2400 Pallas (scrapped :( )
& a couple of Peugeots !

Feeling a bit miffed now. My fiancé has declared that she hates my new car so much it has to go at once. So, how does this work? Do I have to register to sell on here??

As someone who's previously had 4 BXs and 1 fiance I would suggest keeping the BX and putting the fiance on ebay. The BXs proved to be much cheaper to run and far less trouble in the long run

That's a terrible shame Phil but if you are going to sell it there are no restrictions with regard to offering it on the forum.

It is only trade ads that are unacceptable.

Only among the already converted.

You would probably have a better chance of selling it on our sister forum, the BXClub.

You will have to join, as here. If you explain the situation and link to this thread I'm sure you will be well received there.

Worth listing it here too, you never know. Some are members of both forums and run many Citroens, including BXs.
