Saxo eats fuel

Post by merlin617 »

posted on this a while back but never got to the bottom of it. recently had a diag where the RAC man said it was failing on catalytic and O2 sensor, replacing these would be too many pennies right now.

fault codes shown were:
035 - Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch A circuit malfunction
042 - O2 sensor circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1)

Lambda was changed about 15000 miles ago. The engine will not start and does seem to flood if I try to restart the engine which has got to operating temperature having been driven for a few miles.

I guess the cat is flooded. Added Cataclean but made no difference.

So I am wondering if the air temp control valve might be an issue or air temp sensor.

Exhaust is in good shape, the water temp sensor was changed and the fan kicks in when needed.

Any help appreciated.

First couple of thoughts:

An air leak on the inlet manifold or around that area

Do you have a downstream sensor (ie: after the cat) ? , if I remember correctly later 106's (the very last ones with the mani-cat setup) had a downstream sensor, this is worth checking too. I don't think they are the same sensor as the usual pre-cat one.

If the tps is dead then surely thats gotta be first option! If its faulty and isnt showing its true position then could be showing wide open throttle??
Id try a breakers yard for one, dare i say theyvare pocket size! Unless your local yards like mine and brilliant on price!

Heavy fuel usage frequently points to a weak spark.
