It works very intermittently since a car wash guy took the whip off to go through the wash, its not the first time, when I first got the car it was the same, would work for about 10 mins then fade away to nothing but it cured its self that time, but its not working at all now, I think its the amp? but as I enjoy listening to the radio its a pain and I would rather just replace it with something that will work

If the problem appeared after a car wash then it sounds like water has got into the amplifier gubbins in the base.
There are posts elsewhere on the site from people who have taken the aerial base assembly out and then dried out the electronics (there's a signal amplifier in the base). Some have had to clean corrosion off as well to get the thing working again. Sometimes they are beyond repair and need replacig.
I haven't taken the aerial base off so I don't know how difficult it is. Is it a saloon or estate? I think one might be more difficult than the other but both (I think) involve getting between the headlining and the roof.

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Thanks for the replies guys, I already know what the problem is, just wanted to know what peeps have done to theirs, I just think its a pretty bad design that allows water in. Anyway I have ordered a new aerial today so will fit that next weekend hopefully, so we will see what happens.
Thanks again guys.
Thanks again guys.

Does the radio reception go weak or just the sound fades to nothing?
Its not uncommon for C5 radios to lose their radio function. I have one in the garage which only plays CDs and not the radio.
