I have a series 2 Xantia hdi and the ABS Warning light has come on can anyone tell me what might be wrong thanks

I've no experience of ABS, my car being old enough not to have it
However, I'm sure you will find quite a few postings & comments on ABS on the Forum if you do a few searches.
If you have a mulit-meter, then my first thoughts would be to disconnect the sensor from each wheel, at the ABS unit hiding somewhere under the bonnet, check the contacts are clean, and then measure the resistance of each sensor & connecting cable. IIRC, they should all be very similar. I think CitroJim mentioned the resistance values in a recent posting.
If you've done any work in vicinity of the brakes/suspension/drive-shafts, then that might have disturbed or broken one of the sensor cables. Another possibility is that one of the ABS rings has either got dirt on it, or the ring has broken, either of which would affect the signal being sent to the ABS unit.

AS Martin as already suggested check any work you have done very recently in the area of the brakes. This could be the problem.
