Folks, I have in my grubby mitts a new backbox for my car (S2 Xantia 1.8 hatch)
. Getting the old one off proved easy enough, now I am just wondering if it would be easier to fit the replacement by either:
1) leave the 3 rubber mountings in place on the car and fit exhaust on to them
or
2) Remove the rubbers from the car, fit them to the new backbox then fit it to the car.
Any feedback?
Also, is there something which can be used to lubricate the rubbers to make fitting easier?
Cheers
Ainslie

Hello Ainslie,
I've just done the same job on my S2 Xantia estate.
I found the easist way was to fit the mountings to the backbox and then offer it up although it's a heavy lump and a bit awkward to manipulate.
I used a small dab of washing up liquid to ease them onto the mounting bars. You could use a silicon lubricant spray, also good for lubricating the guide channel and rubber strip on all the windows 'cos it doesn't harm the rubber.
Happy spannering,
Ted

Job done, ten minutes!
Merlin617, I could only see two sections under the car - the back box being one of them. The other appears to be all in one section from downpipes through the cat then on to where it joins to the back box. Perfect fit anyway so maybe I was lucky.
Cheers for all the tips folks!
