Relays

Post by carpy »

Hi, I have a relay question. There are 3 relays on the front of the rad on my 2001 C5 2.0Hdi, 2 green and 1 blue and today with engine running and the relay covers removed I pinched the blue relay shut and the fan started running. I did the same thing with the top green relay and the fan started running. I did the same with the middle green relay and nothing happened. I swapped the green relays over and got the same results. Bearing in mind I'm a complete electrical numpty what is this telling me. I left the engine running for half an hour and got the temp gauge half way up and the fan never kicked in.

The Blue one is the high speed fan relay which goes directly to the fan.
the green one with the blue connector attached to the side of it is the mid speed and the other green one is the low speed fan relay.

You can get detailed information about the radiator fan control relays in FCF by
searching with words "fan AND relay" :)

Radiator fan speed control is made by those relays.
Here is a thread which would be a good start ---> Xantia Cooling Fans And AirCon Operation

Edit: Relay colors might vary (all 3 can be black).
Relay position/location is more important (right fan, left fan and change over relay).
