for the hassle it'll be to change the head uni i'd rather put a decent one in.

yes it'll work but only to a point.

get an aftermarket one with steering wheel controls and you're laughing

Sony MP40 is a reasonable headunit that will go in, and work with the controls (using some extra link cables) . plays MP3 cd's

there was another sony that would go in CDX50 or something.. and probably these days a whole load more units from different manufacturers, that may work :D

you wil need a £2 blanking plate, as the original unit is bigger than the standar DIN size

hope that helps

They were fitted as standard to some later Xantias, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem... Some of the ones you find on ebay won't have the connector on the back for the steering wheel controls so ask before you buy. 8-)

That is the actual unit fitted as original equipment on my 2001 Xantia Forte 2.0 HDI, it should plug straight in, the options were that or the cassette or the six pack in the boot.

Thanks guys, much appreciated,
i looked at the sony hu before, not my cup of tea, when i had tihe silly system in my 309gti and the bx was a kenwood hu man,
Is also the difference between £20 or £50-70 for a decent used hu, plus £30 for the patch cables and fascia!

I'll ask about remote cable controlls on the ones I've saved
