Thanks for the quick replies both. I hadn't spotted the other post - interesting, I suspect mine are jammed also. I will give it one more try myself with some padding to protect my wrist (and I'll leave it a few days to let my wrist and hand recover) before resorting to getting the dealer to sort.

Andrew - good idea - a few choice words will also be forthcoming no doubt! I knew how tight these little bu**ers were, so didn't want to end up dropping them and loosing the bulb and housing or worse, dropping the ratchet. I decided it was worth half an hour of dealer time to simply retrieve the bulbs for me and do everything back up - as I was confident I could get them back in myself.

Once I greased them up, I was able to get them out again by hand - and the cable clips I put on made it really easy to ensure you didn't drop them. Anyway - LEDs or standard HP24Ws, you should have all you need to decide.

Oh, one last thing - I bought a box of 50 of those latex gloves from B&Q for about a £5 - best thing for protecting skin and for handling bulbs and anything else sensitive to fingerprints and oil etc. You can reuse them loads of times if you're really tight like me

Hi. Update time - sorry for the delay.

What a saga - I now have new led daytime running lights in and working.

After giving my wrists a rest and the purchase of a better Torx tool I had another go - weekend before last. Good news is that I got one of the holders out but not without breaking the holder where the Torx goes in! I thought that perhaps I hadn't turned it enough and brute force damaged the holder. I was able though to remove the holder, fit the LED replacement lamp and put it back in - manually doing the 1/4 turn (my poor wrist). Hey presto - it worked.

So I moved on to the other working lamp - it came out no problem - I thought I was on a winner. Put the new led into this one and put it back in but of course it didn't work. Thinking it hadn't locked into place I made the same mistake and broke this holder too. Took it out to check it - of course I had already removed my cloth to catch the bulb so managed to drop it down and had to remove fog light to retrieve it ... Things were not going well. Tested lamp with a 9volt battery and yes, it worked fine. Put it all back in but it didn't work of course. Now I was thinking that I had damaged the contacts in the unit or displaced something else...my wrists and back were aching so I gave up and left it for a week. On Saturday just past I decided to take another look - lamp back out and tested it in the holder. It then dawned on me that of course the LED lamps are polarity sensitive and yes, I had put it in the wrong way around (doh). So back in and success - how embarrassing

So moral of the story is, I think, to just get a dealer to sort this. I really hope that these LED bulbs last until I have moved onto my next car.

Also one of my holders was blue and the other pink and I have no reason to think they were ever changed. I had my C5 from it was 8months old.

Since I haven't updated on this as well, I should say that I decided to go the stock HP24 route, and let the dealer do the job. But since it was an authorised service shop and not a dealer, I ended up paying for just the bulbs without any additional charges for manhours

When they have been changed once and the threads have been greased up - it is easy now to change them again - so in my case it was worth the half hour labour to part remove bumper, remove HP24ws, grease up and replace bumper. I fitted the LEDs myself after the mod and adding a tie loop to the plug to make it easy to remove and replace the bulb holders in future without the risk of dropping them. I just hated that yellow look anyway, which gets worse as they slowly burn out.
