Have discovered that the big screw ring that secures the tank pump / sender on the Xantia has been cross threaded at some point and now seems impossible to tighten squarely --- making it impossible to get a fuel tight seal. The ring itself looks good, so presumably the damage is to the thread on the tank neck. Anyone out there got any tips for reclaiming it, without dropping the tank ? If I do wind up having to change the tank, is it a tolerable job ?

Mike,
Having recently replaced the in tank lift pump I had a similar problem in that it would not seal properly.
I removed the screw ring and cleaned it and the thread on the tank very carefully, then liberally greased the thread on both and reassembled. It was noticeably easier to start the thread and to tighten it properly.
Since then it's been completely leak free.
Hope it works for you.
