Anti-Roll Drop Links - Xantia Estate

Post by NAM »

Hi All

What is it about anti-roll drop links? I seem to be going through them at a rate of knots. The most recent set were fitted last August and have been rattling again from about June. I'm only driving around 8K miles a year so really puzzled.

Last time I did have them checked and left them a bit longer before changing them. Is this normal on an older vintage Xant Estate MK2 or is there something more sinister lurking?
I've had the car from new - she is now upto 164K miles and drives like a dream - just these rattles to fix (for a bit longer than I am currently experiencing).

Any suggestions chaps?

Nigel

PS I don't fit them myself but use a local indie so don't know the brand (if this is important?).

Are they actually physically wearing loose, or are you ascribing the rattle to them?

I see that Lemforder is the brand to go for. The links aren't wearing loose - just making the wrattle as I drive along.

Thanks for replies. I have been astonished how quickly the ones I have been having fitted last (or don't).

Yes, that's the one 8-)
I made a quick calculation and conversion which yielded to 36k miles from last replacement and
still no symptoms :) I have a Lemförder drop link as a spare but I don't know when I will need it.

Malc, what's more to the point is that they are made from the corrugated shed, not just in them! :D

I'm being contrary, but if they are not loose, they are not the rattle! Check the pressed alloy heatshields for outer tie rod ends and lower balljoints. My own experience has shown these can come loose and rattle; a coupla careful "dobs" with neutral RTV fixes them.
