Zx diesel auto engine swap

Post by wotwot »

Is it as simple as changing over the flywheel from a manual engine to an auto engine to make it fit a manual car.
Or do they have the torque convertor fixing plate welded to the crankshaft.
I ask this as I have seen it on other engines all be it a lot of years ago.

Swap the flywheels Yes, the solid Manual flywheel is not needed on the auto engine setup..

The flywheel is then bolted to the torque converter....

You may need to swap injection pumps as the kickdown cable will be attached to the lever..

Sorry Paul The manual flywheel will bolt on the old holes the torque convertor "was" bolted too.
Or am I missing something.
Never thought of the kickdown could cause a problem :( .

No, Remove the Flywheel off the engine that HAD the Manual box, and put the Flywheel from the engine that HAD Automatic box on it...

I dont think the "Manual" flywheel will swap over.

Injection pumps are NOT hard to swap either, do it before the engine goes in...

Sorry again Paul but I'm wanting to put the auto engine into a manual car and have it as a manual.
And was wondering if there is any issues putting the manual flywheel onto the auto engine.
Other than the kick down cable and a pump change (easy to change over) is the crankshaft at gearbox end the same.

are you trying to convert a car from auto or manual to the other way,

if you are trying to fit a flywheel to an engine from an auto the torque conveter will be with the auto box after spliting the engine from the box,

so all you will need to remove from the crankshaft will be the torque/drive plate, then a flywheel should bolt straight onto the end of the crank,

Ok i'm getting there  .
I can get hold of an auto engine and want to put it in a manual car,
Sorry if i seem a bit away with the fairies but 2 BBQ sessions this weekend has left me a few brain cells light 8-) .
If they kick down cable is disconected as it would be, does it cause issues with acceleration.
