C5 1.6 Hdi LDS Checking this tank

Post by jmd »

Can anybody enlighten me on how to check the L.D.S tank on this car. The tank is totally black, with no viewing glass, or no way to see into the tank. Or should the L.D.S level be up to the level of the recess that is fitted at the entry to the tank. I understand that the level should be checked with the suspension fully lowered.

Any amount of oil in the cup at low setting is enough.
Too much will squirt out through the cap at low setting.
Not enough will make the steering shudder near full lock.
The tank is black to keep the peasants Image in the dark.
Earlier cars had a translucent tank.

Thanks Clogzz. I suspected that the cup, might be the guide -but needed someone to confirm it to me.
You describe very well the reason the tank is black ''The tank is black to keep the peasants in the dark''. One of the reasons this forum is so great is - because the peasants always win.

It's a sealed system, if you haven't had a leak it will be fine!

The car has been recently purchased RichardW, it doesn't seem to have any leak, but having checked the tank it took 3/4ths of a litre to bring the level to the bottom of the cup at low setting. The car has a full service record etc.
