Sounds like a COM2000 problem to me...are there any other symptoms, eg indicating right when you want left!

Sorry for being obtuse Paul.... The COM2000 is the column stalks unit that sits behind the steering wheel. It used to be called that in the early days of multiplexed cars, and failure was common - causing all sorts of lighting oddities! Unfortunately both stalks are in one unit so have to be replaced together, so it's not that cheap - and if the car has ESP it needs to go on a Lexia to configure the steering angle sensor. I'm not sure how you'd diagnose it for sure - perhaps on a Lexia it will tell you the position of the switches, which won't match the actual position - although quite why they should only come on when the igntion is on is a bit of a mystery as I'd have thought they should work all the time... maybe not on one of these new fangled beasts

Ahh, well I changed the indicator/wiper/sensodrive unit on the car as the headlights were on 24/7. and now this happened. the headlights were on without the key in.
This is silly...........
