Dont think the ZX will ever be worth anything... its far far too Conventional, boring euro box that is nothing special...

You would have been better calling The Old Brickworks in Llandudno junction for a box, probably cheaper then the place Im thinking it was on anglesey... theres only one large one on anglesey..

Now now, lets not be too hard on the ZX, ok exciting mabe they arent but a good little car they are, nice to drive, well appointed, good value, excellent ride for a coil sprung Citroen and if you remember back in the day they wiped the floor with the Escort and Astra if you listen to the Journalists.

But as ever the british public did what it always does and bought a Ford, because its British (well they think it was), which was rubbish but even so the ZX sold quite well.

Unfortunatly Citroens dont fetch good money unless it a DS or a 2CV, partially due to the way they discount them frome new, so to buy a used one it has to be very cheap, and thats where the depreciation spiral starts.

On the other hand even the newest ZX is 14 years old!

Tim,

I wasn't being hard, I know the ZX was way way better then the Frauds and Proxhalls.... I only said they were too "Euro Box".... and wont get any value..

...they're getting up there - I know of a couple of CXs that have sold for £8,000 and £7,000 - proper, proper cars though.

IMHO I still think that they should be up there with the D prices.

Isn't it weird about the car buying public.

Go to most parts of non-Metropolitain France and you'll still see lots of ZXs, not cherished and lovingly polished, but still roadworthy and still used.

I was staggerd to see, on a recent trip down to the big end of the Loire, how many there were still about, some quite tidy and a few a little battered, but all still going. Made me wish I had taken mine over there. SWMBO says to me she'd still use it if it had power steering.

CJ, as has been stated, its one of the easiest Citroens to work on and you've got a few good breakers yards in Merseyside, so there is no excuse to finding another gearbox. Alternatively, strip down your existing box and repair it, they ain't hard to work on, as its probably only the synchro-munch thats worn. Go on, you know it makes sense!

Come and join the exclusive club of ZX drivers.

You have to be a bit careful about what car the gearbox comes off, as many of the cases are the same, but the ratios can differ widely.

Citroen and Peugeot cars with the engine type, TU3 or TU5 and gearbox type, BE3 should be OK as they will all have similar internal ratios and diff final drives.

Diesels will have much lower ratios in first and second, due to the weight of the donkey and long leg in the intermediate gears. Will make for an interesting drive!

Went to collect the ZX back from the auction this evening.
I've had to leave it tonight though, as I stupidly didn't take a bucket with me.

The n/s/f footwell is under approx 6" of water!

I could see it dripping from behind the glove box, and immediately suspected a burst heater matrix, but the coolant level was fine, the 'swimming pool' appeared to be of clean water, and the heater was working fine.

Does the ZX have a history of this problem, and of so, where is it coming in from so I can sort it?
