C5 1.8 16v engine vs Xantia 1.8 16v engine

Post by ashy90 »

I would just like to know if the 1.8 16v petrol engine in the Citroen c5 is the same as the 1.8 16v petrol engine in the Xantia?

And are they any good? I know the 1.8 16v Xantia seems pretty capable of high mileages, how does the C5 compare?

Filling in with some guesses until the experts arrive. :?

They’re different engines.
The Xantia’s 1.8 is called an XU7 engine with cast iron block.
The C5’s 1.8 is an EW7 with alloy block.
That’s for the C5 Mk I and Mk II.
The current C5 has a different 1.8 again.

I've had the benefit of both engines.

The EW7 in the my C5 seems very powerful for its size. Its only on 70K or so but revs sweet and produces power although I find you have to use the revs to get the power.

My previous Peugeot 406 didn't seem to have the same usable power 'range.'

Saying that though the Peugeot was on 148k and going strong.
