The rods are ONLY around 16 quid EACH! I get them off the Bay, cheap enough and good enough on there!!

I ramp may not help you too much as access from under the car is not possible due to the subframe being in the way, wheels obviously have to come off to... mind you, I guess you can have the car at the desired height to stand up to do it rather then lieing down like I have too...

I had one changed on mine earlier in the year - discussions etc here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=34756

Can't see how you'd do it without taking the wishbone out, unless you have got one of these over the rod tube spanner jobbies...

For reference - track rod end play can usually only be felt with with weight on the wheels in normal - in high the angle locks it out. I could still feel the play in the inner joint in high. Car feels and sounds much better with it changed!

I'll have to check my inner ball joints on RUNN now I know where they are to. The steering isn't quite as tight as it should be. :D

Hi All,

I have removed the inner track rods from my 1.9TD rack and since they are different track rods for my HDi they will be available to who wants them.

One of these look like the kiddo you need..

Bit pricey though unless you are doing them regularly...

Hi All,

I've checked the steering rack and there is no movement at the outer ball joints and the inner ball joints but icould feel the movement still coming through the rack.

I checked the pinion for any play nothing.

I checked the universal joint above the pinion and there is some play there :?

Has anyone had play there and this is where the fun part starts how easy is this to change :?:

It's not too bad a job to swap it Kenny. Easier than inner balljoints. Access is a bit tight but not too bad really.

The worst job is to drop the steering column inside the car. In addition to the UJ on the top of the pinion valve, there's another on on the end of the column under the dash.

Basically, remove the under dash trim, disconnect the ignition switch wires, stalk wires, airbag/wireless remote wiring and any other wiring in the way, then undo the lower UJ bolt, undo the four nuts holding the column and carefully drop it as you disconnect it from the UJ.

Under the car, undo the UJ bots on the pinion valve and pull it clear and out, leaving the stub of shaft in the big rubber grommet...

Reassembly is a reversal of disassembly. Be careful to do the dismantling with the steering straight ahead so that when you reassemble you know where to position the wheel.
