Just got back from trip to UK, 1600miles round trip, nearly all motorways.

Brim-to-brim; very very gentle acceleration; allowing speed to drop when climbing hills; changing down with trailing throttle; top speed 60mph.

Astonished to get just under 61mpg - previous best was 56. Allowing for inaccuracies (odometer and filling tank), probably 57mpg true.

That would be about right. On a recent trip to the north of Scotland we averaged 60.2 mpg in our 110 hp 406 estate over nearly 2000 miles, that's driving mostly at 60 mph, light throttle and minimum braking. Overall average for the last 4000 miles has been about 54 mpg.

I suspect that the Scottish trip may have been even better than that because the speedo kept packing up so we actually did more miles, I have fitted a new sensor and its OK now. Going from here to Exeter, about 30 miles usually returns 62.5 mpg, all good roads and not to much traffic.

That wasn't really trying, that's the way I always drive - but I'm old :?
