C5 airbag fault

Post by boristhespie »

Lexia says short curcuit fault. Light on.

I take it these are the airbag wires? Wiggled them and they appear in good nick but fault still on.

Thats the ones, the 2 pin blue & the 2 pin brown connectors are the ones you are interested in. Wiggling the wires wont always do anything, cut the connector out completely & solder the wires together. It's the little terminals inside the connectors that go loose, you wont visibly see anything wrong with them. If that doesent cure the fault the chances are it's the com2000 thats faulty.

I had this problem with my last C5, I took the connectors apart, cleaned up the connections with contact cleaner and refitted them, never had a problem after that.

If that didn't work I would have soldered the wires together.

The connectors will look new due to the fact that they are tucked away under the carpet & no dirt etc will be able to get to them.
Like i already said you wont visibly be able to see anything wrong with them just by looking but there is a high probablility that this is your problem as its a pretty common problem with the C5.
To pull them apart there is a little locking tab on the side you have to pull back first, remember it's just the plugs with the 2 wires in each side you need to touch.
Remember also that these wire connect to the airbag igniters so the battery should be disconected as a precaution first (following the correct procedure of course).

Hi,

Could also be the drivers air bag in the steering wheel.

The connector flexi wires to this have a habit of breaking due to the movement of the wheel.

Can be repaired but it is fiddly

Not easy or cheap to replace as although they plug in at the air bag end they are fixed into the comm 2000 unit at the other so you have to replace the comm 2000!!!!

If it is the air bag the fault is often intermittent and the alarm and light usually come on when reversing and turning tightly. When back at normal wheel angles the break in the wire (which is quite stiff and springy seems to remake contact and the warning often resets at the nest engine start (until the next reverse).

Im almost certain that when my C5 warned me of this it said passenger airbag fault, it then left the service light lit.

Each wire must be connected to the same one its connected to at the moment in the connector.

how do you get access to these? do you have to pull up the carpet?

btw to link images, you have to enclose the image URL with IMG tags, like so:

Code: Select all

[img]http://emob1009.photobucket.com/albums/af218/boristhespie/Snapbucket/9B63E516-orig.jpg[/img]
it probably didn't work because of the ?t=1308487813 stuff at the end
