Picasso HDi clutch

Post by Rob81 »

Following on from a recent thread on here, I have just bought a Picasso HDi (2002). It’s been great so far but I have one question; I picked it up on Saturday and on Monday, when out and about, I noticed a noise from the clutch. Originally, it was making a “whirring” noise when the clutch was engaged. The noise only happened occasionally and stopped for a few minutes if the pedal was dipped. Later in the journey, I noticed that the clutch was also making a grinding and rattling when the clutch was disengaged and there was some vibration through the pedal as I engaged the clutch again. I guess all these symptoms point to release/thrust bearing issues and I telephoned the garage I bought it from and asked if they can have a look at it. I arranged to take it in today but noticed, in the mean time, the noise quietened and then stopped completely. I took the car to the garage anyway this morning and had a chat. They are understandably reluctant to get involved with a clutch that is now functioning silently and without vibration but agreed that I should bring it back if I had any more problems. I’ve been hyper alert to any noise or vibration today and have noticed none. I am reassured that the garage (a very good Citroën specialist) will resolve the problem should it return but am curious to know what is going on: the car stood for a few months before I bought it. Could the return to use have caused the noise briefly? Are there any other suggestions?
Thanks and best wishes,
Rob
