Belt, all TU engines are belt.

I would of thought the plastic cover would of told the previous owner that though, you cannot run a chain in a plastic cover. :D

The elderly Samba type engine is chain I think (discontinued around 1985) , the 'suitcase' engine.

Due at 80K usually or eight years (even if its low mileage), earlier ones were 72K or 6 years.

Its due to break then as you're a few years and miles over.

Easy to change, very easy. No need to struggle to undo the crank pulley bolt as the pulley itself is held on with three small bolts. Hole in crankcase near starter to lock flywheel.

Recommend a water pump at the same time too and possibly the tensioner roller if in doubt.
Andy.

The lack of cambelt change suggests a non dealer history, ;) as the dealer would of included it in the 80K / 8 year service. I don't think you can have the 80K service without it, or ideally should not have the book stamped as its mis representation imo for a future owner. Local garages may not be aware of when its due to be fair. :)

Remember the intervals are 20K / 2 years with the 'intermediate visit' (if Citroen does this Peugeot does or used to) , the inter visit is a lights / level / tyres check though nothing more really.

Company would (if I was still there) charge 79.99 for the belt fitted (fixed price for 8v TU engines). Budget another say 50 for the pump (inc coolant) and say 20 or 30 for the tensioner. Obviously you can do it yourself it is very easy or a local garage can do it cheaply anyway.

EDIT... Fixed typo excess

Sounds good. I mean to mention the HG.

Look at the timing belt end of the engine at the front there's a kind of 'shelf' where the block protrudes out a bit (only a few mm) oil on here is a sign of head gasket failure, but not always as it can run down.
