Might be a long shot..

Post by naffa »

I have a problem with the earthing to the rear lights. Sometimes its like a disco out there
Anyway I have changed the rear bulb holders and the only problem that remains is that when I turn on the sidelights the reverse lights also come on and vice versa when I engage reverse the sidelights come on.
So I think this is down to a poor earth.
Does anyone know where the earthing point for the rear light units is please? If I know it'll stop me having to strip out unnecessarily.

Thanks Nathan
Cheers Nath.

Be helpful to most people to know what kind of car you've got.

Details such as model, which version of the model and what year

You can put it in your signature below like most people do.

For example: 2000 XM V6 Exclusive.

Regards

David.

Agree we need to know on what, although the usual 'fix' in most cases it to add additional earth leads to each light unit, fixing with an eyelet / nut + bolt somewhere convenient. This is how I usually do them on most cars, no one has ever complained although you can hide it out of sight in most cases.

you havent fitted twin filament bulbs the wrong way round have you,
as this shorts the terminals in the holder and cause's all kinds of odd goings on,

but usualy between the stop tail lights and front side light,

or the replacement bulb holders are not for your modle,

Looking at the Synergie tailgate (which is like an Estate tailgate  ), I would also suggest that
wires in the outlet(s) might have shields damaged and two wires are in contact with each other.
Rear lights and side lights might be both energized when either of them is turned on.
