strange one 05 MK2 2.2 HDI Relay van

Post by citronut »

i got a phone call from a truck repairer's in Eastbourne,

the guy was given my No. by a car electrics firm i use,

regarding an 05 MK2 2.2 HDI Rellay van,

apparentlt this van has eaten three alternators in a short period of tikme,

the auto electrics guy say's its down to fuel leaking and entering the alternator,

the guy at the truck company contacted the local dealer and was told there had been a recall for this fault,

and they issued/sold him a shield to bolt somewere about the alternator,

they cannot workout how it fits?????,

so they got onto citroen UK who asked firstly who had given them that infomation????,

and had no knowledge of the recall,

the last 8 digits of the VIN No. are 17562237, and the part No. of the bit they are trying to fit is 5733.A6,

i have tried to get and image of this item from service citroen, but it cannot find it on the system even in all fammily's,

Fitting a sheild to the alternator is not really a solution, Fixing the fuel leak is. The high pressure fuel pump usually leaks into the alternator.

Indeed. The shield is to cut down on warranty costs I would think as having to replace the alternator and the pump under warranty compared to just the pump (although still expensive) is a cost saving if you think about say £5 or £10 cost price for a shield...

Not sure what to suggest apart from looking at another one that might have it (407 might have one too?) or seeing the shield, I would guess its secured under one or two of the alternator bolts.
Andy.

thanks wheeler and Andy,

i do agree fix the leak should be the way to go, and the truck company say they cant find were it is leaking,

and they have apparently tried every which way to fit this shield,

i did also look under the bonnet of my courrier freinds 58 plate relay and it dosent have anything over or under tyhe alternator,

a 58 plate relay will be a mk3 which wont use a DW engine, the mk3's all have either the ford engine or the 3.0 hdi which i think is an iveco engine.

i just spoke to the guy at the truck company again,
he says the shield is a big chunky lump of metal and they now belive it might be to fit a turbo'd engine,

so i sudgested for a temperary mesure fabricate something of there own,

till they find/fix the fuel leak,

is there a specific point the HDI pump leaks and appart from a new pump is there a cheaper repair,
