Hi, I have just changed the two rear spheres on my 1997 td . Is the middle sphere the same as the two outside ones ? I believe it is the anti sink one .
They look the same , but are they ? any advice gratefully received,
cheers Terry.

Hi Terry.
The answer is no, they aint the same.
The middle one is the anti sink or rear brake accumulator, be carefull when removing the sphere as there is a 4.5mm pipe going directly into the rear of the sphere, the spanner size is 9mm.
As some others have found out, if you forget to undo the pipe, you will end up snapping it off as you remove the sphere.
Regards.

The trick I always use is to hang a 9mm flare spanner on the pipe nut, then unscrew the sphere.
The spanner is held in place and you screw the sphere off the pipe nut as you screw the sphere out its socket.
You'll need a 4.5mm pipe seal too.
Use the same technique for screwing the sphere back in, get it going in the socket just enough to hold it in place, and get the pipe nut going into the sphere, then screw the sphere home with the flare spanner in place and it screws most of the way onto the nut.
Also fit the large o-ring that comes with the sphere even though it isn't neaded as a seal. It stops the sphere rusting to the socket face.
