Isothermal padding for undertray or not

Found supplier of new undertray and they offer ones fitted with isothermal mats and without. I suspect the matring is to protect agains heat hitting the tray. Thing is costs more.

Is it necessary?

There isn't the same heat from a diesel engine as a petrol engine (except around the turbo) so this may not be the real reason. I suspect the padding is there to reduce noise.

Not necessary and that supplier is just a snake oil merchant.
A non-genuine tray may not fit easily and there’s not much heat under the engine.
The padding will soak up oil and become heavy, then fall out.

C5 ? Xantia? 1.9 TDI ? HDI ?

My Xantia which still had its undertray was a 1.9 TD and had foam padding on the insider, the C5 is a 2.0 16v and it's undertray was replaced before my ownership but the undertray fitted has silver foil on the inside...
