Xantia S2 Ignition Keys questions please?

Post by falling-out-with-my-car »

Hi,

the unlock button on my xantia S2 ignition key has disintintegrated and my spare key which seems to be all intact but hasnt had a battery in it for a very long time doesnt seem to want to arm or disarm the alarm on the car even with a new battery in it.

I'd like to know please is there a special sequence that has to be performed to activate a key that hasnt had a battery in it for quite some time, or do I have two broken keys by the sounds of it.

secondly are there any alternative companies that will supply a new key other than Citroen, I have the codes for the keys but Citroen want £74 plus vat for one new key.

many thanks in advance.

Nigel.

Andy, S2 cars have no LED (assuming you're referring to remote?)

Not sure as that text comes from something I had ;) , I assumed it means the LED on the key, as I'd assume the one on the dash (if fitted) is related to the alarm. :?:

Thinking again, the Peugeot later keys do not have LED's either (the radio rather than infrared ones)

Its referring to the LED on the DOOR under the unltra sonic sensor...

With a Lexia you can buy any key off Ebay and program it to open and lock the car.. Ive not tried programming though for starting a car yet...

If that sequence above doesn't work, which I could get it too once before a lexia is the only other way.

You'd need a Lexia to code the transponder in, that snippet of text is just for the remote locking, at least as far as I'm aware anyway. I cannot see it doing any more than that. :)

U use the lexia to program an unknown key to the car.. The above is as you say for an already known key to the car... But if it doesnt work.. Then you need the lexia to re pair it. .

Plip re-synch instructions are in the handbook, under changing the battery. Anyone got theirs handy to quote from, I've mislaid mine?

I think it's just a matter of turning on the ignition, allowing immobiliser light to extinguish then pushing the lock button on the remote within 10seconds - but I'm probably wrong.

Regan,

you are correct my S Reg Xantia has a folding key with no led light on it at all.
the only led in the alarm system is mounted on the dashboard to the right hand side of the steering wheel, I think this is just an indicator to show that the alarm is active.

Spiders efforts although admirable dont make any sense with my car and its keys.

I shall dig out my handbook if I can find it at check for a sequence to activate a key once a new battery has been inserted maybe the answer is there.

Mike T,
my xantia is the same year as yours an SX but an estate and not a hatchback.

regards Nigel.

Nigel,
Have you tried the simple things like turning key on then pressing un/lock button? I seem to recall this is the way to 'resync' the key to the car...

I could be wrong on this fact tho so please dont take as gospel.

Best of luck
Regan.

Another thought;
Are the codes stored the 'rolling code' type :?: I had a Mongoose car alarm that would 'code out' the spare remote after 250 arm/disarm cycles. Was something to do with the remote and alarm moving to the next sequence of rolling codes.

This *might* be what has happened to the spare, assuming the above type system applies.

Will spare key start car with alarm deactivated? This, in my view, would confirm if the key is still coded to the car still.

Others thoughts on this please (Before Nigel pulls all his hair out  )

to late my hair fell out ages ago.

Oh yes the key unlocks the doors and starts the car but the key has no electrical attachment to the coded alarm/emobilisor section of the keyfob.
it is possible to drill out a rivet and remove the key from the keyfob.
Not thart I want to do this because the spare key is in better knick.

cheers Nigel. PS do those Turbo cocks produce more young??

Maybe its worth popping down to one of those little key cutting places and finding out if the remote is still transmitting? The transponder is obviously still communicating with the car.

Dunno bout the young but makes them fly for longer I'd say :P
