Xantia S2 - Hazards not working

Post by gadgetgricey »

Just noticed that the hazards on the car are not working.

Had a search on here and found that the hazards are "triggered" by making both indicators flash at the same time.

Indicators both work without issue, and stop working when the hazard button is pushed.

Have checked the fuse feed for the hazards and there is no power there.

1) Steering column surround is not back on following the work I have done to fix the horn.
Could the cruise control connection or something else be stopping the hazards from working. Going to put it all back together at the weekend, but have to replace the rotary connector first. (Broken by me, whist fixing the horn  )

2) If it still does not work with everything plugged back in, and there is still no power to the fuse. Could I find the power feed at the back of the fusebox and add a new feed??? (or is it safe to add a temp 12v supply direct into the appropriate fuse to test if the hazards work first)

Once again, thanks for any input and hopefully this will be the last thing to sort before I take the car for an MOT.

Cheers

The hazard light switch is a recognised problem.
Removing it, cleaning the contacts and replacing it generally does the trick.
just pushing the button multiple times sometimes gets it going too.

I would have thought the switch as well, but does not appear to be any power at the fuse box.

Will give the contacts a clean though.

Ok, had another look tonight and dont think its the switch.

Defo no power to the fuse, and no power to the switch on any of the nine pins.

Would the next logical step be to try and put 12V through the out put side of the fuse to see if the hazards start working. If that fixs it, then remove fuse box and see if the 12V feed to the fuse can be repaired??

Does that sound reasonable or is there anything else to try. Already fused a couple of items so a bit nervous regarding anything elecrical.

Thanks again.

Done more searching on the forum today, and found that the indicator relay could be at fault.

Changed/tested that and all working fine.

Do you think the "test" of the 12V direct feed to the fuse as described above may be a good idea, as cant really think of anything else to do.

Also says that the hazards work by bridging the indicator relay, but its only got three connectors so how does that work.

Cheers

Got it sorted, well sort of.

Added a 12V feed to the input side of the fuse for the hazards. Only a temp test, but possibly worthy of FMB membership.

Touched the other end of the wire to a live circuit and hey presto hazards working.....

Obviously going to do a proper repair over the weekend, but glad I know what needs to be done.
Also have a "spare" fuse box so can check where the feed enters on the other side, so know where the 12V has to go.

Just hope I dont damage anything else in the process.

Cheers
