Tradex raised their minimum premium this year from £500 to £1000.
The high excess of £500 seems consistent across all their policies.
A minimum of 3 cars insured was the break even point for them to be worthwhile for me. Policy will take any number of cars up to £50k in total value so can be worth it with a large fleet. Allows you to put even the SORN ones on cover so on MID for MOT moves etc.
Looked at Motor Trade policies but the small print killed it for me.
All of them reserved the right to seek documentary evidence of trading (Accts & Taxman etc) after a claim and declare void if not satisfied.

Most require this when setting up a policy too it would seem.

Hi Citroenmad

Virtually all I spoke to will accept a statement of intent to trade.
They have to to cater for start-ups with no evidence.
Where it gets nasty is none would specify minimum work evidence levels for a part-time trader.
It quickly became clear that without at least a self employed tax declaration and issued copy invoices for work done (minimim number and frequency undefinfed) your trade insurance could be decared invalid when a claim was made.
