Insurance

Post by Quackers »

I have noticed a few members seem to have large Citroén collections.

What do you do in regards to insurance? I am going to more than likely buy a C5 on Saturday which is exciting and i am really really sad at the same time because i do not want to say good bye to my Xantia Activa.

I have a small drive that i can fit 2 cars on, but obviously i will be transfering my insurance to the C5 meaning i cannot drive Activa, and i do not want to have 2 policys as it would mean another £600 a year going out.

Doubt i can really afford to keep 2 cars, but i just know i will regret getting rid of the Activa if i say goodbye, re-sale value is next to nothing.

Stuck on what to do, leaving her on the drive for a long time does not seem like a good idea with the amount of moving parts the activa has on the suspention i guess they would start to get stiff and make her do weird things.

What do I do about insurance?
I get scared at renewal time!

I think many of us with large car collections probably drive very few of them!

Admiral Multicar.

They insured me this year and no one could touch the price. They were more than half everyone else. An Activa and a V6 Coupé don't come cheap to insure!

I could rave about it all day as I was impressed with what is covered.

There is also a company called Tradex, who offer multicar policies.

https://www.cglloyds.co.uk/quote/multi-car

(tradex links you to the above site when you select a home fleet quote)

The only thing that stopped me was that I was unable to reduce the excess below £500.

May be of use to someone.

I search 'confused .com' been using them since they started, my XM insurance has been under £200.00 but I am in a low risk area, I had an accident last year but it hasn't gone up much, my wife had an accident the year before but it was still cheaper if I included her on my policy :?

Admiral multi car, 9/10 years no claims bonus, £87 a month.
Of course it'd be cheaper if I could have paid in one go.

Admiral Multi car is probably the best option if you have more than one car, its usually unbeatable.

My dad has a motor traders policy which is with Tradex, not because he is a trader as such but his job requires driving other peoples cars and so he needs fully comp cover on everything. This policy has some of our cars on it, the Xm, C15, C5 estate. The Traction has its own classic car policy and then the rest are insured on single policies.

Having two separate policies running is the expensive way of doing things.

No, I doubt an Activa will thank you for a long rest period.

I have my C5II and Activa, quite a nice pair to run together. Admiral Multicar price £1300, scary!

I don't agree with this. I tried Admiral Multicar for my HDi and Activa - came to over £91 a month.

Went with Esure in the end, 2 separate policies. I have 4 years NCB which I used on the HDi, they gave me 3 years introductory on the 2nd policy (Activa)

£36 a month for the Activa, £28 a month for the HDi. That's including my missus who's only been driving here for 5 years.

That's considerably cheaper than Admiral. I'm 38 and have no points, but have been banned in the past.

The cheapest I can get for both of my cars on their own policy is around £800 each car.

Im almost 24, 5 years no claims, no points or previous accidents, driving since July 2004. Quite a good area of town. Like a lot of peoples insurance mine has increased quite a bit for this year.

The above multicar policy is with the C5 doing 16,000 a year and garaged and the Activa doing 4,000 miles a year and in private parking.

Dad uses a Trade Policy as it'd start getting very expensive if they were all done individually!

It is when your other car is a V6 Coupé

The Coupé is my daily driver. The Activa is insured for 4000 miles annually too.

The Activa is HUGE fun, but doesn't quite produce such a nice sound as the Coupé.....nor the fuel economy! Activa only really gets used at weekends and when I'm working on the Coupé (well that is the plan - it hasn't actually been done yet!)

 Ive only done about 900 miles in mine I think, though I have had a week away without it.

Most of my commuting is taken up by the C5, it makes more sense sitting on a motorway in the C5 and not the Activa.

Though your right, I can see me doing a lot more than 4000 miles in the Activa in a year. Ill see how things pan out. :D

  I was doing up to 30,000 miles a year when I was working, I was obviously getting value for money from my insurance :D
