Nice bump stop. :P You have correctly identified the nominal pressure.

Spheres are aftermarket, and I suggest should be tested given their age - they have no pressures written on them, so it can be reasonably assumed this hasn't occurred...

Thanks all, however, you are assuming I have a level of base knowledge, I am working in it but there is still alot of basics I don't know...

1...Whats a "bump stop"? at a guess it's that ugly orange thing, should I replace it? if so , how,.. I got back under the car this am & could not figure it out.
Image

2..."aftermarket" is that no good?

3..."tested giver their age" 02/09 I guess is when they were made/ last serviced/gassed ?? That's only 2 years , so how long does a sphere last ?
I thought I'd get 5 years out of them.
Driving or sitting does it matter to spheres? I am guessing this car has been sitting for the last year in someones backyard.

4..."XT Activ" I guess = Xantia Activa, so this has come from an Axtiva, & I assume by the Lizarte like they are interchangable.

5.. what does the TR = ?
& "20.00.0071..." ?

6... "power wash and polish the underside of your car?" of course, don't you ! Actually, sadly, the car was sooo covered in grim & had a thousand little leaks, & identifying what was leaking from where has been a "fun time"!! .... even though it was dripping from the try under the left rear passengers seat the lake originated from the front right etc,.. so the best way I have found was to clean it all down, photo it all , leave it for a while & re photo it....

This is little leak number 12 ...

Is there any trick to getting this type of hose clamp off easily ?

Just rolled out the showroom

Trouble with our cars over here is that we can't polish out all the rust and peeling off paint

Activ may very well mean hydractive which is totally correct for the VSX
and V6. Unfortunately I don't have any dealings with Lizarte spheres to offer
any feedback but EVERYTHING prettymuch these days is aftermarket unless
you pay the ransom at a Citroen Agent.

Spheres on a shelf can last ages without detriment and the date isn't ages
ago either so if the car feels soft and pliant they're fine. That flare nut may
just need a slight nip up but don't overtighten it too much.

Most undersides of any Citroen I ever see here in South Wales (Pays de Galles)
is a rusty depressing place to point cameras - these pictures are quite galling
and as Xac says, life would be so much better if things here looked the same.

wasn't the nut but the hose clamp thingie which was leaking,.. as with most of the other leaks... hose degradation seems to be the main issue here,.. you should see the hoses near the main collector ! OHH what a mess. Most of these were leaking even after what has been done to them,.. I can't wait to clean it all up but it is going to be a replace whole hose job for each I think..

Gosh, that's looking lovely underneath :D Ours never look that good

The clips you mention are best released by the use of the special tool. However, you can release them by using a scriber to get unerneath the crimped piece and unclip it.

They acn be refitted by pinching them up with a pair of large wirecutters or carpenters pincers.

The special tool does both jobs remarkably well and these clips can be reused many, many times...

That's the rear height corrector which can be removed and refurbished.
Check this link where CitroJim has a nice pic story 8-) ---> http://www.eastment.net/hcrefurb/index.htm

If you don't have a pit/ lift then you need the car up on axle stands at the rear jacking points.

So, start car and put it on high, put axle stands in place, set car on low, turn the 12mm bolt by the front accumulator sphere 1/2 anti clockwise and you should hear whooshing/hissing as the pressure is bled. Its the only 12mm there, don't remove it, there's a ball bearing behind it that actually creates the pressure seal.

Now stop the engine and you should have plenty of room to get under safely at the back.

Never ever go under the car without axle stands supporting it, they can sink suddenly and an axle stand will support the car much better than your chest or skull can!

Great, thanks,.. I am sure most everyone else know all this stuff but one has to start some where,...

I have just read another excellent CitroJim pdf on "How to replace spheres...." once the ht corrector unit is refitted,.. do I need to bleed the brakes too ? and citarobics ? seen that a few times but not elaborated on,.. I guess it is, with engine running, put it on top ht & then on lowest ht a few times, topping fluid as need be, right?

thank also re the safety tip, ...... but rest assured, one thing this forum can be proud of is how often that safety advise is repeated. I joined the forum 2 weeks ago & have read it many times, I bought axle supports yesterday.
