V6 rear wing, does it have some value.?

I have noticed the rear wind on the boot of my V6 Xantia is cracked & looks like it may come apart.

I am thinking of removing the wing completely.

Is there any NEED for the wing? Does is have anything to do with the balance of the car? or the aerodynamics for that matter?

NO.

Well, if it means anything NO V6's originally had a spolier in the UK market!
The V6 is a far significantly faster car than any other Xantia so if Citroen
decided not to fit one why would any other model require one?

To be frank, it only serves as a marketing gimmick plus a way to differentiate
potentially deserving 'sports' varieties and boggo "hell, how do we shift this"
versions. The Activa 2.0i TCT was originally the only Xantia with a spoiler but
later random models from 1.8i's to 2.0HDi's got them too.

I'm not sure if I like the Activa look or not. Certainly makes a mess of the
hatch with holes through it to fasten the thing so not a brilliant feature to
find if you want to remove or retro-fit one.

I hate stoopid spoiler on Xantia......like somebody put it there hoping it's gonna grow?......

Despite what I've said here earlier I may be suffering from Activa spoiler envy
with my V6!! It just seems inadequate, like something's not right?

What colour is your hatch if you wanted a swap for a non spoilered one?

The larger spoiler with a middle leg and a wide 3rd brakelight that my first Xantia had was great, the 3rd leg was perfect for those moments when you need to lug something big around and needed to tie the boot down, and the brake light was much better sited than the boot lid one (which looks like a fridge magnet to me).

The boot lids on S1 and S2 Xantias differ in that as well as S1 versions having a key lock, around the back painted area there is a groove, todays useless piece of Xantia trivia!

That would have been an aftermarket spoiler, the three versions that Citroen offered didn't come with a middle leg.

What are the three genuine versions then?

Never thought about it before: I rather "innocently" believed
they're all "Activa" ones rolled out throughout the range?
Did they get a wimpy XM s2'esque lip spoiler too
- I can't say I've seen one?

The first two spoilers Citroen offered were quite low/close to the boot, in fact close enough to make it very difficult to clean between the bootlid and spoiler, they were also relatively deep almost covering the area below the rear window. There were two versions of this spoiler, one with a built in middle brake light the other without, these were only available as an accessory, not factory fitted.

The third version is what's known as an Activa spoiler being much higher above the bootlid than the earlier version and shallower, after initially only being available on the Activa it was then used more widely especially on SX models but never fitted to Exclusive's.

Any more Xantia trivia requested?

Sounds exactly like the spoiler mine had, but it definitely had a middle leg.
Don't suppose you've got pics of one with the brake light, or know where they can be bought from? (I know there are those aftermarket ones for £10 with £49034.98 postage but they're not the same).

I will have somewhere tucked away in my brochure stash, I'll dig an accessory one out then either scan it in or bring it along to a show to let you have a look. AFAIK they were available from dealers but whether that's still the case,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the info re the differences, changing over the boot was todays task.. looks like it is going to have to be a panel shop job, along with a new paint job.

I prefer the "3rd" break light anyway. I had removed it from the VSX.

Crumbs, that's very, er WHITE!!

It looks very odd without the black inset behind the licence plate TBH.
So what's the plan, change the s1 hatch onto the s2 v6?
As Richard says, the button/key is different between them mind
and I'm not sure how easy the sap is - never had to - yet!

From that view that one looks like the first version I mentioned, whether its a genuine Citroen one I can't say from here
