C5 tailgate lock

Post by citronut »

what if any are the usual tailgate locking/unlocking faults and fix's,

a freind of mine has an 03 2.0 HDI 90 estate,

i havn't looked into it as yet,

he says it wont unlock with the plip but the rest of the car does,

the split tailgate opens with the button under the rear wiper, and it will open useing the button inside the car,

Malcolm,

I'm not sure if they are the same, but, it could be worth having a look at this http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... &start=105

The tailgate doesent actually lock when you press the lock button on the plip, all it does is the BSI ignores the open request fron the tailgate microswitch. From what your saying just sounds like a faulty microswitch fault to me, easy enough to test, just disconnect it & short the 2 wires, if it pops the latch open then the switch is faulty.

I dont think i've ever seen a mk1 C5 with a tailgate open switch inside the car but in theory if it has one & it's opening with this then yes it's still possible that the tailgate switch is faulty as you would be bypassing the tailgate switch by using the dash switch. Like i said should be very simple to check the tailgate microswitch anyway.

Mine certainly hasn't!

update to this fault now i have had a look,

the car does have a boot unlock only button on the centre consoul, which does unlock the tailgate whilst the ignition is switched on,

the plip works on the rest of the car unlocking and locking every time,

my freind discoverd by accident the button under the rear wiper armfor openning the tailgate glass only, this does not operate either,

i have had an ohm meter across the pins of the main tailgate switch,

i think i am right in saying the switches send a signal to the BSI which then tells the tailgate to open???
