diagnostics cable for hdi dw10 xsara 1

Post by eurotrotter »

hey gang

im looking for a cable and software so that i can read error codes, and i heard also that you can get the engine temperature etc etc with this cable and software

is there anything i need to check or be sure of, to ensure that i purchase the right cable software?

my question is also, where can i get such a cable and software, and how does it usually cost in total?

thanks very much,
Ed

You can use one of those Ebay Lex clones with a cable for the early type diagnostic systems.
The Lex clone will not provide you with too much info, but it still do fine with the earlier OBD systems.
One thing of special interest is live data surveillance of sensor signals.

Above all however, you MUST still remember that these testers requires a lot of engine experience and knowledge to understand whats going on.
You will NEVER get a finger displayed pointing to a defective device on your car.

As an example :
Many owners will haplessly rush out and purchase a new Lambdasensor, if this sensor reads bad Lambda values on the tester.
But this error may be the result of MANY different causes.
Even several different problems simultaneously.
Motor engineering is in NO way an absolute figure.

Scan Ebay for Lexia clones.
Usually they are pricetagged in the vicinity of £60-£90 incl standard PC software and a basic cable from HK or PRC.

Optional cables are available for all types of earlier Citroens with OBD ECU's.

Please do your own research.

Why the ELM?
Surely a Lexia would be preferable?
