Xantia ABS light?

Post by willhay33 »

Xantia 2.0 HDi s reg 1998
The ABS light on the dashboard has recentley come on and stays on constantly, is this a common fault that can be easily fixed or does it need plugging into the expensive box?
Also anyone confirm whether reversing lights are compulsary to pass an MOT.
Thanks, Will

Yes mate,common problem apparently.
Mine has been on for 2 years

Not too expensive if you can diy, think the sensor's around 12 - 15 quid on ebay...

IIRC, you can check it with a normal cheapo multimeter, up at the ABS ECU jobby..I can't remember the reading..1200 ohms or summat? Anyway, mine showed zero, on the front offside, the most common failing one I believe.
Might get away with cleaning/reseating the sensor, in case there's any crud in it also..

Excellent thread by red_dwarfers with pictures shows absolutely everything, mk 1 and 2...here:

I think you need the abs light working for the mot, depends on your tester though

Reverse light I'm not sure, I don't think they're compulsory, but don't quote me on that, there's a dvla mot webpage somewhere..

Reversing lights are not part of the test. Mine didn't work for years.
