Xantia with lower profile 17's?
I'm in the process of putting my Xantia back on the road (2000 reg1.8 16v SX) but the wheels are in bits. The first attempt at a diy refurb didnt end well , so I've been lookign at new wheels. Came across affordible sets of 15's and 17's. The tyres that come on the 15's are too low, sidewall wise so will be a bit too different in rolling radius to the stock wheels. The 17's (205/40/17) are very close to the stock 15" wheels (185/65/15) and on the next change of tyres I'd increase the sidewall sizes a bit.
Has anyone any experience with putting similar tyres on a Xantia and how it affected the ride?
Cheers

205/40-17 an inch smaller in diameter than 185/65-15... I wouldn't call it very close to stock.

I'm running 215/45-17's, and I'm quite happy with them. But Activa isn't famous for it's comfort even on stock wheels, so I really can't say how it would affect a "regular" Xantia's ride quality.

Hi,
Unless looks matter more to you than comfort be careful what you go for. My old XM was fitted with large alloys when I bought it. It looked good (or so most people said) but the ride and handling were awful, it tugged on the steering wheel when crossing man holes, tram tracks, etc. and on rough surfaces gave a jittery ride but on smooth surfaces floated. Swapping the wheels for a set of Volvo alloys with sensible tyres cured all the problems.

Im very much on the side of comfort over looks, I wouldnt be changing at all only the current wheels are pretty much paint and lacquer free at this stage.
A nice set of 2nd hand Xantia alloys would be good, but theres not a huge amount around here in Ireland, I might try Traynors up the north they tend to have a good stock of bits.
