1400 8v HDi engine problem

Post by citroenxm »

Hi.. Im sort of double posting a bit I think..

My dad has a 206, 1400, but it has a strange problem.. it starts and runs but has a very severe engine rock while idleing.. and rocks the gear lever respectivly..

I took a Lexia reading of the injectors and got the following:

Image

So other HDi experts, does this screen reding confirm that injector 4 is faulty as it has an unusulaly high flow correction rate??? If I lift the revs above 1800rpm, it smooths out...

Any advice greatly recived..

Thanks
Paul

Am i missing the sarcasem here?? if any intended....

No one seem to know. I havent really solved the problem. I did an injector swap, but guseed, but it still does it slightly... so its been left for now.. Prehaps one day Id get a set of four injectors and stick them in....

Paul, as I see it, the correction figure suggests that's how much the ECU has to modify the flow to that injector to make it flow correctly. In itself that's not a huge problem but what may be happening to cause the ECU to have to adjust the flow that much is a dribble from that injector. Often a dribble will make the engine run a little unevenly, knock lightly and be apt to make more smoke.

If my HDi is anything to go by then they never smoke visibly unless there's a problem. Does this HDi smoke under any circumstances?

Itd dads car Jim, It does knock too, Ive never really tried driving it for long as its a 206 SW, so have wheel barrow suspension which I cant live with for long...

I should try and go for a blast to see.. I need to put the lexia on again to compare parameters...

As for 2 litre 8v HDi's they dont do Black smoke, however, at night check your exhaust under accelleration and see whats happening then... I dont see black smoke on mine at 193k, but at night theres a lot of something in the following cars headlights... tired injectors me thinks... mind you, I DO have injector rattle, which is a sign of worn injectors...

No, just go for a spin in it Paul. Listen, feel and observe...

I know what you mean though. I've got to drive Robyn's 206 to Aber soon and I'm dreading it for the same reason. I'm not yet sure when as taking time off work is the problem but when I have my plans firm I'll be in touch and come and see you if that's OK?

I get to do that test every morning on the way to work, there's always some bloody impatient German thing tailgating me  I used to see plenty of haze when I had a small boost leak but now that's all fixed, nothing, not a sausage...

I remember back when Top Gear was interesting, they lined up a load of IDI cars, insulted them, skipped past the PSA ones interestingly enough, and introduced a Golf TDI
They floored it and the amount of black smoke that came out was shocking!
Don't think I've ever seen that from a hdi unless something was really wrong.

To be honest Jim, other then oil changes, I rarely if ever lift the bonnet, Oh, only to "Borrow" the battery.. She doesnt touch the water or oil, so as for looking for boost leaks I havent looked, and have no reason to lift the bonnet.. Id be interested to know what boost your reading, I realise and read that your lexia is not well, but as and when you can get a reading that be good. I can do it this end, as mums is a 110bhp, and my mates got an Exclusive 110 bhp aswell...

OF COURSE id love you to visit! I was thinking about that yesterday, and wondered if you be making it this side of Christmas..
Im Very much looking forward to it!

I'm amazed at how much some newer diesels smoke. So much for low emissions  Maybe it's 'green' smoke...

Paul,
mine was running very rough, engine leaping around all over the place, the whole car shook.
Was a dud injector - wasn't injecting anything at all.

Had it refurbished and it was OK for a while - if you remember you ran a diagnostic at Wetherby and highlighted injector problems again.

Since then they have all been pulled, checked, stripped and refurbished/recalibrated by a diesel expert.

Re: the smoke - mine doesn't and I have yet to see a healthy HDi that does but VAG, BMW, GM and Ford all chuck it out in significant amounts.

Never seen any on the daughter's Rover 75 - 2.0L BMW engine in it. Doesn't mean there isn't any, just that I have never spotted any.

Paul/Jim I've just come across this thread/ I'm intending to pull No. 4 tomorrow and replace it with one Paul has supplied.
I was getting readings of
1 -0001
2 -0001
3 -0001
4+0002

So I guess the No. 4 is the culprit for the white smoke. it starts below +3C with rough running at idle and at 3300 RPM.
Paul I've deleted your post about where No. 4 is located.
I think you said it was at the belt end of the engine?

Thanks,
Chris
