That looks like two connectors, do you unplug both or is it just one?

Unplug both; I think mine are joined as a pair.

Take a look at your receipt, they should have charged you for five litres, any less and you have confirmed the problem of insufficient LHM.

First picture, normal and low setting, and showing level switch wires.
Second picture, high setting.

Good pictures thanks, comparing the second one the float in my car was alot lower than that when in the high ride setting. I'm going to print the second picture and take it to the dealer when i go back. They can keep it and stick it up in their service bay for future referances.

I'm getting more and more confident they haven't put the correct amount of fluid in

Here is a better picture for the dealer, with a free French lesson.
It says to check on high setting with the engine running.
It also says to put engine oil in the LHM as an emergency top-up.

Just spoke to a member of the service team and apparently they've only put 3.5 litres of fluid in the tank.

USELESS G*TS!!!!!!!

Bet they won't reimburse my petrol cost for the inconvenience!!!

Sorry XAC only just seen your message - I didn't think of doing that and the guy even had a spare bottle in his hand when he finished, I should have asked him for it!

Went back to the dealership this morning and the mechanic (if you can call him that) added almost an extra litre to the tank and surprise surprise no more warning lights!!!!

To be fair to the guys they where very apologetic and very sorry for the inconvenience, but a word of warning to anybody - never trust a main dealer for even the simplest of tasks!!!!!!!

Thankfully with the knowledge (and sometimes spare hands) from here there are few jobs on the Xantia which can't be done without the need of a "professional" mechanic.

Glad you've got it sorted. I think that the problem is as DickieG stated, many mechanics (sorry, they seem to like to be called 'technicians' these days) in Citroen dealerships now have very little experience with hydro-pneumatic systems, such that it is quite likely that the 3.5l refill mentioned was done without the engine running, and, possibly, still in the lowest position.
The advantages of the hydro-pneumatic system were not promoted or exploited to the full when the Xantia was current; for, example, in the handbook, the procedure for changing a wheel is set out as exactly the same as for any other car, wind it up with the jack. The procedure of putting it on high, putting the jack under, putting it on low and watch the wheels lift off the road doesn't get a mention.
I also understand that some dealerships no longer stock LHM, as there is so little 'call' for it. Will it go the way of Total 'T' for c-matic transmissions, I wonder?

This sort of situation is the norm for most makes of cars - I wouldn't send a car to a main dealer if they charged £20/hr, I learned that lesson at a young age when I asked a VW dealer to regrease my driveshaft joints. They could not have been surer that they would still be well-packed with grease but I insisted, I could feel they were dry. Sheepishly they admitted 3 out of the 4 were dry, only for me to find out they had used cable ties to reattach the boots, with an inner one leaking all over the shop! Exactly why I had gone to a dealer in the first place. It was a good lesson to learn.

I always wonder why specialists aren't used more, many are superb. None can be worse than a poor dealer. On top of that you'll speak to someone who knows their stuff and may well have worked on your car himself.
PeterN: "Honest John's forum put the last nail in the coffin of owning a 2000- car. Many were still servicable, but CR, DMFs and needing fault codes read because your horn doesn't work - no thanks. All my life I have generally understood cars - until now."
