C5 towbar wiring

Post by johntom »

Hi
I am in the process of refitting the towbar from my old C5 estate onto my newer one. However in the intervening months I have misplaced the wiring notes I made. I have a diagram for the 7 pin lighting plug but can't find one for the relay that has 5 wires. Black I think is earth, not sure about yellow, orange, grey and green ?
can anyone help?

Hi
the relay is actually is an audible warning unit with 5 wires not a bypass relay. The wire colours are black - earth, but where do yellow, green, grey and orange go ?

hi there,
if the unit is an audible warning unit for indicators ( buzzes with flashers when trailer/caravan is plugged in) two of the wires should go to indicators on car (one each side) and the other two should go to the flasher pins in 7 pin socket (again one each side) if i remember correctly green and yellow were the original colours for the flashers in 7 core cable way back in the days before you had to fit the buzzer units (cant remember which colour was which side though!!! Not a great deal of help i,m afraid but may give you an idea of where to go i hope??

I am now in a similar situation where i am fitting the towbar from my old C5 onto my new one.
I had already purchased a dedicated wiring kit a few years ago but never got round to fitting it as i didn't need twin electrics.
On the new one, i thought i would fit the kit to make life easier - No it doesn't!!
You need to remove most of the trim from the inside of the boot area (estate) and also remove the rear bumper. only then to find that the kit does not fit my car???
Don't know why but my Citroen Towbar wiring kit (CIT 1324) manufactured in 2002 does not plug into a 2003 C5??

Anyhow, i now have to solder 6 wires from the towbar into the cars loom via a Ryder Smart Pass.
Most if not all of the wires appear to be white!! Is there an easier way of locating the wires needed???

Citroen lists the wiring kits as changing at RP 9442 which is 15/09/02 - so I guess you are straddling this date
