Hydraulic pump rebuild

Post by davewithington »

As part of the planned maintenance/ rolling rebuild of the Xantia, i'm looking to refurbish the pump. I suspect output pressure is down and it leaks - not much but enough - which is probably the big o-ring behind the cover.

Anyone rebuilt a pump?

Anybody got a VSX pump I can have for rebuilding? I like to have spare bits so I don't have to take the car off the road, though my 2CV should be back on the road this month which takes the pressure off somewhat.

Sinker pump?

I've never seen another going spare so rarer than an honest politician =
best of luck getting one - the pump design is predominatly the same with
the later ones although the drive pulley and main body/end bowl will need
to be carefully referenced. I'll try and find some pictures I've got of one I
took apart. Likely it's the o rings/seals but the main pump body should be
fine; the whole assembly has through bolts that can actually fatigue and snap
if the pump has been working for some time with poor accumulator sphere.

I replaced the accumulator sphere about 14months/10000 miles ago, so should be OK.

As you say Andrew, but they are rarer than that even. They are rarer than an easy, straightforward job on an Activa

Now I actually have one but it's in use and I'd be lost without it... It's the pump on my sphere tester..

Now, if I could replace it with a single outlet pump from a CX, BX or early XM then I'd be happy to part with it.

That's the best I can do...
